Perched on the peak of the Donner Summit, Sugar Bowl boasts the triple distinction of one of the oldest resorts in the area, one of the last remaining privately owned resorts, and the highest average snowfall at almost 500” annually. Original resort buildings help Sugar Bowl maintain its mid-century charm, though updated amenities (like high speed chairs) keep the resort modern. Thanks to opening the first chairlift in the area, Sugar Bowl was popular with celebrities during the Hollywood golden age of the 1940s (even naming a mountain after Walt Disney).
