MEET THE OWNER

I had the privilege of opening the first licensed branch of Black Tie Ski Rentals here in Big Sky, Montana in 2004! When I look at the impressive lineup of 15 locations and the 39 resorts we service, there is a huge sense of pride knowing I played a part in Black Tie becoming what it is today. Going into our 15thseason here in Big Sky is an accomplishment I am not ashamed to smile proudly about!

Originally from outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I moved to Big Sky for a winter of fun with a buddy after college in 1997. Big Sky was not my year round home right off the bat, as I would pack up and leave for the summers chasing my other passion of whitewater kayaking and raft guiding. It wasn’t until after moving every six months started to get old and my Big Sky friends started asking me to stay that I started living here year round. This has been my year round home for almost 16 years now!

After managing a ski shop in town for a few years, I knew I liked what I was doing but did not like the way it was being done. I did some research and figured out that there was a demand not only for better equipment but for a more convenient and hassle-free way to rent equipment. It was about this time that I found out about Black Tie via a mutual friend of the founders. I approached the owners to learn more about their concept and little did any of us know that it would be a match made in heaven!

Although my numbers of days on the hill are not what they used to be, due to a growing family and business, telemark skiing is still my passion. Being out on the slopes for a few hours during a work day, a day off or skiing with my wife on the weekends still confirms that after all this time Big Sky is still my favorite place to ski! Now my thoughts go to the future and before too long we will be chasing our 3 year old son and one year old daughter down the same slopes that captured my heart all those years ago!!

I know you’ll love your time in Big Sky as much as Lacey (my wife), Tobyn (our son), Laken (our daughter) and our two dogs Otter and Boone do! There’s plenty of snow for everyone here at “The Biggest Skiing in America.”
