There’s a New Peak Open in Town This Year! Breckenridge Ski Resort has expanded, opening Peak 6 access within weeks!
Only a few weeks away, depending on the weather, this will be the first year for skiers to have lift access to brand new terrain on Breckenridge Ski Resort’s Peak 6.
It’s been the buzz around town for years, only intensifying as the day approaches that we can all experience 543 NEW ACRES of beautiful snow covered trails.
Years of resort development has lead up to this new expansion. Opening on December 16, 1961, Peak 8 was the first developed skiable area for the mountains in Breckenridge. It consisted of one double chair with a midway unloading point and a short T-bar. Tickets that year cost only $4.00 per adult skier. Close to 17,000 skiers came to Breckenridge Ski Resort that year.
The second peak to open terrain was Peak 9 in 1971 with two new double chairs. It wasn’t until 1985, 14 years later, that Peak 10’s quad chair came into the picture, accessing outstanding intermediate and advance trails on the most southern side of the mountain range. These trails were named after World War II planes, unlike the Peak 6 trail names that were derived from a name contest hostested over social media earlier this year.
In 2002, the Peak 7 expansion opened for skiers/rider to delve into what was then the most northern edge of resort terrain.
Now it’s December 2013, and within weeks, Vail Resort will announce the opening of the first quad chair and six person lift, accessing 10 new trails on Peak 6.
