Going-to-the-Sun Road E-Biking Conditions Update – Spring 2026
By Black Tie Ski & Bike Rentals of Whitefish
Planning to bike Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park this spring? Early season is one of the best times of year to experience Glacier without summer traffic and e-bikes make the ride more accessible, scenic, and enjoyable.
Current Going-To-The-Sun Road Conditions
As of Tuesday 5.12, cyclists can access the Going-to-the-Sun Road from the West Entrance and park approximately 14 miles down the road at Avalanche Campground. From there you can bike 10.5 miles and 1750’ up the road to Bird Women Falls Overlook where the hard closure is currently in effect during the weekends (Friday-Sunday).
Road access changes frequently during spring as Glacier National Park road crews continue snow plowing operations toward Logan Pass. Riders should expect changing weather, possible temporary closures, wet pavement, snow along the shoulders, and active maintenance crews.

Why Spring Is the Best Time to E-Bike Going-to-the-Sun-Road
Spring offers a unique window where bikes can often access portions of the Sun Road before v
ehicle traffic opens for summer. That means:
- Fewer crowds
- Quiet riding conditions
- Incredible mountain and waterfall views
- Easier wildlife viewing
- Cooler temperatures for climbing
E-bikes are especially popular during spring because they help riders comfortably handle elevation gain while allowing more time to enjoy the scenery.
What to Bring for a Spring Ride
Mountain weather in Glacier can change quickly during spring. We recommend bringing:
- Warm layers
- Rain gear
- Gloves
- Water and snacks
- Bear Spray
- Sunglasses and sunscreen
