5 Tips From A Breckenridge Ski School Instructor

Whether you are learning to ski for the first time or have just decided to take up snowboarding, these helpful tips straight from the mouth of an experienced Breckenridge ski school instructor will lend a hand in preparation for your lesson.

Tip #1: “Lessons are always important for the novice young or old. Even a quick half-day lesson can do wonders for technique and confidence in your discipline,” says Francesca Cedillo, who works with students at Breckenridge Ski School.

Tip #2: Being aware of your surroundings on the slopes is very important, not only for you but also for the people around you. Breckenridge Ski Safety has a “Responsibility Code” that everyone who participates on the mountain should be very attentive to, it save lives. Instructors take your safety extremely serious, you are safer with them than on your own.

Tip #3: Dress appropriately.  Do not let uncomfortable clothing or ill-fitting items distracted you from learning. Wear the proper layers for the weather, sunscreen if needed, goggles, gloves and equipment accurate for your height, weight, age and ability level.

Tip #4: “Come ready to learn- including a positive attitude and an open mind.  It will make your experience effective and fun for everyone. The most frustrating clients are the ones who think they already know it all.”  Ski School instructors receive gratification from seeing you really improve throughout the day(s). They are part of the program for the love of helping people and getting accomplishment from your success. Show your appreciation for their passion and efforts with a financial tip of approval at the end of the lesson.

Tip #5: Remember your instructor is a wealth of knowledge of Breckenridge and the area.  Ask their opinions of things to do, great places to eat. Or better yet, offer to take them out for a drink or dinner at the end of the day. Create a lasting relationship with your instructor and you will always have a friend in town.  Many instructors boast of clients they have worked with each season for years. The good times they have had together on and off the hill are irreplaceable.
