41st Annual Al Johnson Uphill Downhill Telemark Ski Race
The Al Johnson Telemark Race was first held in 1974. March 22, 2015 will mark this Crested Butte tradition’s 41st year. The Al Johnson has a tag team race and an individual race followed by a party and raffle! The competitors, mostly in wacky costumes, climb 660 vertical feet, then descend 1200 feet down double-black diamond steeps some having never telemarked at all! This event is just as fun for spectators and competitors alike. In 2014, the race had record participation with well over 200 racers of all ages taking on this wild ski terrain! You can preregister online, at the Alpineer, or the day of the race at the Brick Oven. The tag team race will kick off the event starting at high noon!
